It carried around 2200 passengers but, only had enough life boats for about 1200 people, so over 1500 people died. There unfortunatly was only life boats for 1,178 people and that was only half the number of people on board.
Over half of the people died for under ground on the boat was flooding with water and most people drowned.
This was very unfortunate as the disaster was greeted with worldwide shock and outrage at the huge loss of life and the ship damaged and failures that had led to it being sunk.
The titanic remains on the seabed, split in two and gradually disintegrating at a depth of 12,415 feet. Since the titanics discovery in 1985, thousands of artefacts have been recovered and put on display at museums all over the world.
